Non-Fatal Strangulation: 7 minute briefing
Non-fatal strangulation is a specific offence as part of the Domestic Abuse Act. It typically involves strangling or intentionally affecting a victim’s ability to breathe in an attempt to control or intimidate them and can lead to serious health issues such as brain damage, neurological disorders, and psychological trauma.
Studies show a significant number of domestic abuse cases involve NFS, highlighting the need for greater awareness and intervention.
You can increase knowledge and response with this short seven minute briefing, developed by members of the Southend, Essex and Thurrock Domestic Abuse Health Subgroup in consultation with one of the lead safeguarding GPs.
