Advice on how to conceal your internet activity.

How can an abuser discover your internet activities? Internet browsers save certain information as you surf the internet, including images from websites visited, information entered into search engines and a complete history of the websites that you have visited. Please take a few minutes to read and follow the instructions below to minimise the chances of someone finding out that you have visited this website.

Website history / cache file:
If an abuser knows how to read your computer’s history or cache file (automatically saved web pages and graphics), they may be able to see information you have viewed recently on the internet.

If you would like information about clearing the history within your internet browser please click here.

Warning
Even if you take these cautionary steps, your abuser may be able to discover your online activities. To ensure that your online activities are not discovered by your abuser, you must use a computer that your abuser cannot access such as one at a local library, a friend’s house, or at work.

Access via your mobile phone:
It’s also important to cover your tracks if you are accessing this website via your mobile phone. Clear your history, cookies, and cache by going into your phone’s internet setting.

If you are unsure of how to do this, please consult your phone’s manual, call your service provider, or visit a mobile phone shop.

E-mail:

If an abuser has access to your email account, they may be able to read all of your personal emails. If you believe your account is secure, make sure you choose a password that an abuser will not be able to guess.

If an abuser sends you threatening or harassing e-mail messages, they may be printed and saved as evidence of this abuse. The messages may constitute an offence.
