SETDAB Lecture Series: No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) by Red Cross

Taking place on,  7 October 2026, 12:00am until 1:30pm via teams (this is an hour and 15 minute online session with some additional time for questions and polls at the end).

Who are British Red Cross:

The British Red Cross Refugee Support Service in Essex supports asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants. They help people access immigration advice and representation to submit immigration applications as well as support people to access statutory support and increase their knowledge of their rights and entitlements in the UK.

What is the session about?

The lecture will focus on the routes to access statutory support for destitute victims of domestic abuse who have no recourse to public funds. It will cover eligibility for the MVDAC (Migrant Victims Domestic Abuse Concession- previously called the Destitute from Domestic Violence Concession) and look at asylum seekers or pre-asylum applicants. The session will also provide a brief overview and explanation of these different immigration routes and the key features to look for when identifying a person’s immigration status.

Outcomes for the session:

The aims of the session will be to:

1) gain a basic understanding of how the immigration system works in the UK.

2) recognise when someone could be eligible for the MVDAC and know how to support them to access legal advice.

3) understand how to access domestic abuse provision for asylum seekers and pre-asylum applicants from the Home Office.
