SETDAB Conference 2025: Technology-Facilitated Domestic Abuse
This year’s annual SETDAB conference will be held in person, in Chelmsford, on Tuesday, 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls.
The conference marks the start of 16 Days of Activism, a global campaign which runs through to 10 December—International Human Rights Day. Join us as we come together to raise awareness, inspire action, drive change and strengthen our commitment to enable everyone to live a life free from all forms of domestic abuse.
Target audience
Frontline workers and managers – those working with victims, families and perpetrators of domestic abuse.
Learning objectives
- Improve knowledge and understanding of technology facilitated domestic abuse.
- Improve knowledge and understanding of how abusers misuse technology.
- Improve understanding of available guidance and support to victims and approaches to perpetrators who misuse technology.

Key speakers
Gavin Saunders – a Cyber Protect Officer within the Essex Police Serious Crime Directorate. A subject matter expert within the evolving and challenging area of Technology Facilitated Domestic Abuse as well as Stalking and Harassment. Gavin provides support to officers, investigators, and other agencies to assist with victim support and behaviour change for offenders. He continually monitors emerging technologies, including the evolving role of AI.
Dr Leonie Tanczer – an Associate Professor in International Security and Emerging Technologies in the Department of Computer Science at University College London (UCL). Dr Tanczer leads the Gender and Tech Research Lab, which explores the intersections of gender, technology, and cybersecurity, with a focus on issues such as technology-facilitated abuse, online safety, and surveillance. Her work has informed policy, industry practice, and public debate on how digital technologies impact society and vulnerable communities. The conference is free of charge to partner agencies across Southend, Essex and Thurrock but late cancellation or non-attendance will incur a fee.
