You may be being tracked using a separate device hidden in your bag, coat, or another possession you regularly have with you. Although this may sound far fetched and like a spy movie, tracking devices are incredibly easy to buy and can cost less than a cup of coffee.
These devices may be an AirTag or using Bluetooth to find your location; the device then sends the location to another device it has been paired with, such as a phone or tablet. AirTags and Bluetooth trackers are intended as a way to locate lost items as they can make a noise to help find them, or be located on a map, however they can also be misused in the wrong hands. Some devices include a SIM card and can be used as a listening device.
Suggested actions:
- Remove any devices you do not recognise from your bags, coats, possessions you regularly take with you when leaving the house. Do not throw device away; report to the police and follow any advice given on what to do with the device next.
- It may be safer to leave the device in place as to not arouse suspicion from the perpetrator, but remain vigilant in where you go and what you say as this may be being listened to/recorded.
