Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC)

The MARAC is a regular meeting to discuss how to help victims at high risk of murder or serious harm.  A domestic abuse specialist (IDVA), police, children’s social services, health and other relevant agencies all share information about the victim, the family and perpetrator, to enable them to devise an action plan to reduce risk for each victim.

MARAC considers cases identified as ‘high risk’ by use of the Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Harassment and ‘Honour’-based violence (DASH) risk model and develops a coordinated safety plan to protect each victim. This might include the actions agreed for any children, adults, and for perpetrators. Please see below link(s) for support and guidance around DASH.

Three new Domestic Abuse Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) arrangements were put into place from July 2016 across Southend, Essex and Thurrock.

• Essex and Southend have implemented a static Multi Agency Risk Assessment Team (MARAT) model.
• Thurrock has a Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH)

Under the new model every high level case should be heard at MARAC within 14 working days  of receipt of the referral.
